Postpartum Hair Loss
Baby is here and you are on cloud nine. One day you go to do your hair and realize your hair is thinning or have a bald spot. What happening to you? Is this normal? What should you do?
What can you do about postpartum hair loss?
1. Remember to continue to take your prenatal vitamin supplement.
2. Keep a good balance in your diet. Don’t forget about your water intake.
3. Be extra gentle with your hair. You may want to avoid anything that will add extra tension to your hair. This may include using blow-dryers and curling and flat irons if you can, and put off any chemically based treatments (highlights, perms, straightening) until the shedding stops.
4. Call up your Cosmetologist, s/he knows your hair and will be able to give you a temporary regimen to care for your hair until its back to normal.
5. Talk to your practitioner, especially if it's accompanied by other symptoms.
6. Breathe, the good news is this is only temporary. You're not going bald, your hormones are just adjusting back to normal.
A lot of women experience postpartum hair loss. While common, it can be a frightening ordeal.
