Amanda D. (Saying goodbye to my twins)

I've been a mother for 7 years now. I have 3 pretty girls. But in July of 2015 we found out we were expecting twins! Never did I think that would happen to us. My pregnancy was very high risk and hard from the beginning, dealing with hyperemesis gravidarum and gall bladder issues. In September I had to have surgery for my gall bladder and they placed a picc line for nutrition. I thought we were out of the woods but my teeny babies had surprises for us. On October 19th my water ruptured on baby a. I was 19 weeks and 2 days. I later found it it was because of an infection my doctor had ignored. There was nothing they could do but watch us at that point and pray we made it to viability. On November 10th 3 weeks later we were still holding on. I went to the hospital for stomach pain, the doctor swore we were fine and that things looked good. But little did I know we had a uterine infection that he knew I had and didn't say anything to me I didn't find out till the next day. They sent me home at 1am November 11th. I went home and went to bed trying to not think about the pain. I woke up at 7 am not being able to sleep any more, I had my husband start the truck and grab my bag. I drove myself to the hospital while he stayed home with our kids. Once I got to the hospital it was all a whirlwind. Within 15 minutes of being there they had me in ob and told me baby a was already in the birth canal and breached. Baby a rebel kash was born at 8:03 am, struggling to breathe and kicking. I delivered her breach with no medication (first time ever). Before I knew it they whisked her away and the doctor for whatever reason broke baby B's water and started a high dose of pitocin. I didn't get to see rebel until she had passed 43 minutes later. I got to see her in the nursery for a few minutes before they made me go back to my room. I labored another 7 hours with pitocin and no medication for pain when Remi Faith made her way into the world. Born at 2:22 PM. She came out kicking and trying to cry. They only had her away from me for a few minutes when they gave her back to me still barely alive with her sister. Remi lived for a beautiful 23 minutes. I didn't have long with my girls I got the snuggle them for a few hours before the hospital said they were discharging me.
My sweet girls grew their wings at 23 weeks gestation the same day we got to see them for the first time. Saying goodbye to your children is excruciating. My advice for mothers is to advocate for yourself and your babies. If I had done better at it my girls would still be here. Don't take negligence from your doctor's. We know our bodies and know when something is wrong. Trust your instincts.

I am now an angel mom. And I know there's a lot of us. Happy mother's day to all of the earthly and heavenly mother's.
